As we know, the fight to save our democracy is going to require LOTS of us, working together.
To deliver an effective call to action, we need to introduce ourselves and our own motivating values; and we need to overcome the emotional conditions that STOP people from taking action together: inertia, apathy, fear, isolation, and doubt.
Marshall Ganz's technique of Public Narrative is the leadership practice of creating the emotional conditions that OVERCOME these inhibitors and enabling us to move back into agency together. It's fundamentally a way of telling stories that bring to life:
- The urgency: why we need to act NOW
- Our anger/outrage: why our values demand we act
- Hope: the future we can achieve if we all act together
- Solidarity: seeing and knowing that others are working with us
Join the team at Stand Up For Science and long-time community organizer and trainer Jake Schlachter. We'll be introducing Public Narrative in the context of speaking at the No King's Day protests on Oct 18th.
